Make a Gate ($325)
This class is two 4 hour days. Open Studio time is available by appointment if you need additional time to complete your flowers & leaves or start a new project.
Please note: In order to take this class you must have taken my Beginning Ornamental Welding class or have previous MIG welding experience. I will only briefly review basic welding techniques to refresh your memory.
Create your own larger scale artistic garden gate. We will learn how to miter box or round tubing to create the framework of your gate. Hinges, simple latches and measurement concerns will be discussed. As well as tips and tricks for installation. Come with measurements of the opening your gate will fit be into. I will provide many gate design examples to start your creative juices flowing. Maximum gate size 4’ X 4’. All necessary materials will be provided for you to choose from several class projects.
This class will build on your Beginning Ornamental Welding skills. The first hour of class introduces safe use and practice of power tool use (grinders, chop saws, and oxygen acetylene torches. Working with these common metal shop tools will greatly expand your project options.
PERSONAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS (what to wear to class)
· Leather gloves (no fabric on back of fingers or hand) (light weight gloves are preferred, gardening gloves work great)
· Heavy 100% cotton shirt or jacket (sweatshirt or jeans jacket OK)
· Long Pants: jeans or heavy cotton (no cuffs, not gathered at ankle, no frayed hems)
· Leather boots or shoes-ankle height preferable.
· Long hair should be tied back.
**Bring earplugs as this class involves hammering and loud power tools**
Please wear old clothing as welding sparks will damage your clothing. If you wear glasses when reading bring them along. Please be prepared to get dirty. Bring water and food, there are no vending machines or eateries nearby. Class is in an unheated/air-conditioned studio Dress appropriately.
*welding is a learned art which requires patience and practice. Please be prepared to have fun!
